We are thrilled to share our latest collection, the Aureole Collection, which was showcased at the prestigious Dutch Design Week. In this exhibition, we presented the first three pieces of our wall-mounted ambient lighting series, each produced using advanced 3D printing technology with black quartz sand.

Creating these pieces required innovative techniques in digital modeling software, pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the digital engine. The intricate details and unique textures achieved through this process truly bring each piece to life, casting a mesmerising glow that enchants and invites its viewers into its embrace.

Moving towards greener cities that support natural systems is fundamental to society. Mitigating the depletion of biodiversity often focuses on preserving large natural habitats, but the preservation of ecosystems should also be a goal in the urban environment. ‘Urban Stem’ shows how light fixtures in public spaces can not only provide illumination but also act as a refuge and nest for flora and fauna. Drawing inspiration from the way erosion sculpts Tafoni sandstone, I have developed a working method that merges the freedom of digital craft with sophisticated adaptive simulations

We rarely make products just for wildlife without an urgent cause and effect - but by combining a utilitarian product that has functional use for society as well as natural systems, is a way to ensure that humans are invested into the process. The goal is to continue the conversation on how to invite nature back into cities, to imagine how we can redesign urban infrastructure, to suit both us and our life support machine...

I wanted to create structures that looked as if they’d almost grown straight out of the ground, mimicking the wild and untamed character of organic fertilisation.

Discover the captivating beauty of one of our latest lighting collection, Dune. Unveiled at Paris Design Week, this collection showcases the versatility of quartz sand in a stunning and unique way.

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, each lamp in the Dune Collection is a testament to high-quality materials and state-of-the-art 3D printing techniques. The organic geometry of the lamps mirrors the graceful flow and movement of sand dunes, creating a harmonious and tranquil ambiance.

One of the most enchanting features of the Dune Collection is the diffusion of light through the quartz sand material. As light passes through, it creates a soft and soothing illumination that adds warmth and comfort to any living space. The interplay between light and sand evokes a serene atmosphere, inviting relaxation and calmness.

Stay tuned as we continue to expand the Dune Collection. Soon, we will introduce new iterations, including a bracket and pendant light, offering even more possibilities to incorporate the mesmerizing beauty of quartz sand.

ODYSSEY | OC_OL01

This piece is part of a new and ongoing project, called "Liquid Roots," which aims to address the depletion of biodiversity in urban environments and explore ways to reduce the negative impact of city lighting on the natural world. It proposes the creation of a semi-permanent light fixture in a green public space, functioning as a living garden and multi-species paradise for people, flora, and fauna to coexist in harmony with the surrounding environment and buildings.

The goal is to promote debate and discussion about the relationship between technology, nature, and humanity, and inspire others to envision a new, nature-inclusive landscape in public spaces. "Liquid Roots" will be launched as part of "Radical City Inc.," a new initiative by Transnatural that focuses on regenerative systems and a nature-inclusive, climate-proof approach to the urban landscape. The initiative addresses themes such as drought, salinity, subsidence, energy, light and air pollution, and the intersection of urban and landscape ecology.

REQUIEM | OC_RE01

Free from the bounds of industrial mediation, a unique identity is created that demands imagination to seek meaning in its Sinistrous form.  the light sculpture is simply an amalgamation of intertwining curves, giving form to ideas and inner thoughts. With different personalities from each side, it invites the viewer to perceive upon their own impressions and references, to conceptualise an alternate reality or speculative scenario;

'The requiem is a composition, set in a world much colder than this one. It's a dark but delicate place where the earth engulfs its surroundings. A hooded figure is shown through its shadows, tightly wrapped around a light source that spreads cautiously across its surfaces.  Energy and warmth are all that's left to live from, resources are minimal and the environment is hostile. Those who thrive in this landscape are disciples of technological anatomy, followers of biomorphic evolution and soldiers in the selfless ideal of codependence...'

'Urban Stem' aims to rediscover how lighting can be designed for green public spaces. It acts as both a functional means of illumination and as a refuge, nest and shelter for insects in the city. The intermediary object attempts to synergise the relationship between species and people, for the benefit of a collective and collaborative future.

Moving towards greener city infrastructures that support and boost natural systems is fundamental to the progression of society. Mitigating the depletion of biodiversity is often focussed on preserving large, intact natural habitats, but the preservation of ecosystems should also be an important goal in the urban environment.  As images of wildlife returning to cities have disseminated over the past few months, there has been a lot of enthusiasm for watching nature “reclaim.” In spaces designed for and by humans, is there room for interspecies cohabitation?

Optical doors are a playful way to separate spaces. The lens creates fluidity between two different areas; blending light, colour, texture and form over its volumetric surface. The lens inside the door magnifies and minimises the observed space by blending a convex and concave form. The position of the observer in relation to their line of sight, changes the perceived view and creates a constantly shifting portrait of the concealed space.

The doorway is an important transition point from one domain to the next, but are often only used in the practical sense of allowing entry and exit. This project aims to expose a different way of experiencing the intermediate; acting as a way to transcend ambience, incite activity and provoke humorous encounters with incoming individuals.

This piece is part of the larger 'Urban Stem' collection; an ongoing body of limited works that push the boundaries of manufacturing and software technologies. Intended as an interior light sculpture, the piece visually reacts and changes in accordance to its surrounding environment. The luminosity emanating from the LED core diffuses softly across the textured surface, revealing the intricacies of the form through all its cavities and crevices.

Biomimicry has been central to the research and methodology behind this piece. The initial stages of exploration where focussed on finding innovative new ways of modelling organic geometry digitally and realising the designs physically. With a fascination for naturally formed organic structures, an aesthetic identity of similar character and taste is clearly visible. The aim has been to create structures that look as if they’ve almost grown straight out of the ground, resembling the wild and untamed character of organic matter.
