RAL Design

reading the codes

All five are RAL Design System colours with the same hue, 030, which is why they read as one family. The code is hue, lightness, chroma: Garnet, RAL 030 40 30, is hue 030, lightness 40, chroma 30.

Lightness runs from 70 (Blush) down to 30 (Oxblood). Rust and Oxide carry the most colour (chroma 40); Oxblood the least (20), so it reads as a deep red-brown rather than a bright red. More on the two RAL systems on any RAL colour.

what they sit with

In our photo shoots the Burnt Earth reds sit with dark wood, velvet, warm plaster and stone:

  1. 01Oxblood, wood + plaster

U·044 over a long wooden table in a plaster-walled dining room; U·016 on a wooden side table between velvet sofas.

  2. 02Garnet + velvet

U·021 and U·016 beside deep red velvet.

  3. 03Oxide + stone

U·018 on a stone console in a vaulted hallway.

made to order

Every U· piece is printed, painted and assembled to order in Valencia in 4-6 weeks, in the colour you choose. Try any piece in any of the five reds in the Colour Studio, or ask for a painted colour sample first: colour reads differently in every light.

Questions

Do you make an oxblood table lamp?

Yes. Oxblood (RAL 030 30 20) is one of our signature colours. U·016 has been photographed in it, and every U· table and ambient lamp (U·016, U·018, U·021, U·037) is painted to order in it at the same price.

Is there an oxblood wall light or pendant?

Yes. The U·013 wall light and the U·039, U·044 and U·048 pendants can all be painted in Oxblood or any of the five reds. U·044 has been photographed in Oxblood, U·039 and U·048 in Garnet, U·013 in Oxide and Blush.

What are the RAL codes?

Oxblood RAL 030 30 20, Garnet RAL 030 40 30, Oxide RAL 030 50 40, Rust RAL 030 60 40 and Blush RAL 030 70 30, all in the RAL Design System.

Does a red cost more?

No. Every piece is painted to order, so any colour costs the same, whether it is one of our 35 curated colours or any RAL code.
