Sand Editions
printed in sand
Forms generated digitally, too complex to make any other way, printed layer by layer in fine quartz sand with binder-jet additive manufacturing ~ a rarely used technology that allows large, highly detailed pieces with a raw, mineral texture. Each one is finished and wired by hand in the studio. Five collections, shown across Europe since 2020.

Shop Aureole →Dune by Rollo Studio
Table and floor lamps whose organic geometry follows the flow of sand dunes. The light diffuses through the sand in a warm glow.
Shop Dune →Lavora
An ongoing body of limited works that push binder-jet printing to its limits. Suede is carved from rolling curves, with light escaping through hidden openings.
Shop Lavora →Orbital
Forms imagined from particle collision and erosion by cosmic forces. Printed in quartz sand and sand composites.
Shop Orbital →Urban Stem
Floor lamps that look as if they have grown out of the ground, printed in sand composites (PLA, PVA and sand) around a custom LED core.

how a sand piece is made
- 01Generated
Each form is modelled digitally, often from structures found in nature: a sunflower's disc, the ridge of a dune, erosion.
- 02Printed
A binder-jet printer spreads fine quartz sand layer by layer and binds it only where the form needs it, which allows large, highly detailed shapes.
- 03Finished
Each piece is finished and wired by hand in the studio. The raw, mineral texture of the sand stays.
- 04Lit
Standard LED bulbs you can replace. Aureole pieces are fitted with the colour temperature you choose and tested before they leave the studio.
sand or U·?
The Sand Editions are raw and mineral, in the finish of the printed sand. The U· Collection is printed in plant-based PLA and painted to a high gloss in any colour, made to order in 4-6 weeks. See both side by side on 3D printed lighting.
